I've played through with everyone but Wilhelm and I think Athena, Nisha and the Doppelganger are my favorites. Athena can tank huge amounts of damage with a strong build focusing on her shield, Nisha can tear through groups of enemies like they were made of wet tissue paper and the Doppelganger can distract enemies and pick them off one by one.

I bought this game a few months ago and have yet to finish it. I would assume that I'm about half way through the game. I regret not choosing to play through the game with the fragtrap, since it was much easier to stay alive without oxygen. I ended up choosing to play through the game with Athena, which was still a great choice. Athena is a beast. Although she can't maintain herself without oxygen- I still love her and found her a fun class to play.

I really loved playing as Claptrap. Firstly, he's hilarious - I love the random nature of his ability. Secondly, I like how he doesn't need oxygen, as I found the oxygen mechanic to be annoying on the other characters.

All of them are pretty great, but I think for me, it's a tie between Wilhelm and Claptrap. Both of those characters amuse me immensely for different reasons, but I also found them easier to play as. I agree with blfan75 that Claptrap not having to worry about the oxygen mechanic is AMAZING, but when it comes to the actual fights I think I have the easiest time playing Wilhelm. I found Wolf and Saint incredibly useful, and they suit my play style more than maybe any of the other characters' action skills.

Look at my name. She's my favorite. I liked her back in the Borderlands 2 as the boss and I've been playing her nonstop in The Pre-Sequel. I have so, so many of her skins and heads.

Just look at her, she's one badass female character. All her skills are useful so it makes it hard to choose how you will build her but fun at the same time.

I like that she's a glass cannon and does an insane amount of damage. It makes me feel powerful, haha.

It's a definite Jack for me since he's pretty powerful when you play solo because you can spawn 2 additional clone allies, pretty much a one man army right there lmao. Athena is pretty good too, but I don't think she's nearly as good as Jack as I do really well with all bosses using Jack.

I have to go with Athena as well because she's just amazingly tough and strong. Nisha is also pretty awesome when it comes to battle and there are also a few others that I like

I think that I would agree with the Claptrap, and it is mostly solely due to not having to function with the oxygen. Maybe that just reflects my flaws though and the need to avoid the constant check ups.
