(No help or technical issues forums or am I mistaken?) I'm getting an error message after attempting to join up with my friend that simply states "Cannot connect to host" after about 1 minute. He can't join up with me through my invitation either and we've both ensured the game and steam is allowed through our fire walls. Me and my friend can each join random public matches but not each others. Does anyone have any knowledge on this issue that might help me resolve it? The major appeal for me right now is to play co-op and I simply can't =/
I'm having a very similar problem; two of my friends and I were all going to play together. One of my friends and I can connect to each others' games, but the 3rd one can't connect to either. He can join games through the matchmaking system however.
Got a buddy having the exact same issue. He can connect in public, and has *never* ever had an issue connecting to games over Steam or GameRanger -- so we're kind of baffled on this one.
Update: We've tried disabling firewall & AV software, and even verified the install to make sure everything is good -- still not working. Someone also posted this problem in the Steam forums, but sadly Gearbox has yet to post the game ports so we can't even try a port forward solution. I really hope port forward is not a requirement for a solution here as many gamers really do not understand how to implement port forward on their home networks, and not all routers are easily configurable.
I had this problem too. I changed from using my regular DNS server to the google one (8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4) and it worked... not sure why. Then later, it stopped working again. I switched back to my regular, ISP assigned one, and it worked. O_O
Hi, I'm having this problem connecting to both of my 2 other friends. I was playing with one earlier today for several hours, and the other separately for several hours until ~ 1 hour ago. ~1 hour ago steam servers restarted or went down for a few minutes I think because we both lost connection to our games and steam at the same time, and did not lose connection to our teamspeak server. To fix the issue I've tried in order: Restarting borderlands 2 Restarting steam Verifying my game cache: 1 file was corrupt however the new file didn't fix the issue. Also I was connecting to games fine before I DL'ed the new file. Restarting my computer Restarting my router The problem still persists and I cannot join any other games publicly or through my friend's list. 1 of my friends is also on the same hamachi network and I still cannot connect to them... I'm going to assume the problem is not on my end. If you ARE having problems try the things I did and it might work out for you, but it seems to me like this isn't on my end.
Same issue, I can see matchmaking and other friends in game but I can not join them and they can not join me. Absolutely infuriating.
Same issue here. I can no longer connect to two friends of mine even though they can connect to each other. I was able to connect to them at 11pm on 9/17/12 and disconnected at 12:30am on 9/18/12. I didn't try again until 6:30pm on 9/18/12. So it looks like to me, any update that was performed during that time could be the cause of this issue. I tried connecting to them while they were both in a game and tried connecting to them individually. They also tried joining a game that I created. Every time I would get a "Can't connect to host" error message or they would. More information below. System Specs Mobo: MSI K9A2 Platinum CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Video: Dual ATI Radeon 4970s Location (general): Texas Panhandle ISP: Suddenlink Steps that I have tried. 1. Uninstalling Microsoft .NET 4 Extended 2. Uninstalling Microsoft .NET 4 Client Profile 3 Reinstalling .NET 4 Client Profile 4. Running ipconfig /release /flushdns /renew command 5. Restarting router 6. Disabling Steam Overlay for Borderlands2 None of these steps have worked in resolving the problem.
As a host to enable friends to join one fix is to enable DMZ host in the firewall section of your router control panel this applying to Dlink routers. Keep in mind this opens your pc ports a little more than normal and may pose some security risks but you just want to play right? Also on same page I removed NAT end point filter restrictions on both UDP and TCP ports. From another forum one user posted the port forwarding ports to open TCP ports 7777, 28900, 27900, 28910; UDP ports 7777, 6500, 9989 I never needed to go that far but this may be another fix until its patched.
Having same problem but it is probably because the Steam servers went down today. So I hope that is the problem and it is fixed by tomorrow
This is a new game and Firewalls/ISPs could be blocking traffic. Until they provide a fix or the ports theres really not much that can be done. I'll try to see if i can find the ports and post them here. The following is copied from Gamespot.com about the first Borderlands. It might help. Finally got it to work. What i did was open these ports from the previous post.. To host an online game, the following ports need to be opened / pushed to the host's internal IP address: 7777 (TCP/UDP) 28900 (TCP) 27900 (UDP) 28910 (TCP) No luck.... then In addition I opened up 6500 (UDP) for Gamespy. Game on!
Thank you for the post. However, from what I can see, this may not necessarily be a port issue. More like a possible NATing issue. Borderlands 2 no longer uses Gamespy from what I can tell but instead uses better integration with Steam for matchmaking and game hosting. The matchmaking and hosting system worked perfectly well for me after the game was released at 11pm CST. I did run into issues with installing the .NET Framework 4 package that came with the installer for the game. Please see my steps that I posted above. The only think I haven't done is completely remove all traces of .NET 4 in the installed updates section of Programs and Features. Keep up the good work lads. We'll get this problem figured out!
Oh so they did finally do away with gamespy? Thank god. I don't have my copy of the game so I'm trying to help with an advanced knowledge of Google. Are there any other details you can give such as are you and your friends able to host in other games through steam? There was some fix for dungeon defenders that lets you host by editting steams advanced startup, I'll find that and give instructions on how to do it in a bit.
Alright try this. Within Steam 1. Click "Property" from pop up menu for "Dungeon defenders" go to Borderlands 2 instead obviously. 2. In "General" tab, Click "Set Launch options" 3. Add "-tcp"
Well, to be honest, we haven't tried hosting in other games through Steam since running into this problem. The only other game that I can think of that uses hosting/matchmaking similar to BL2 is Dungeon Defenders. We'll have to try that out.
I'll be here on the forums for the next few hours or so. I'll try and help as much as I can, but like I said before I don't have the game quite yet and am searching through Steam and Google to find fixes for people and can't test these fixes myself.
