I've been playing Minecraft for years now and I can say it gets boring from time to time, but after a while I get a thirst for it and pick it up again.
Honestly, I feel the same way. I play minecraft almost on a cycle. I'll get really into it with some friends for about a week, we'll get bored, and then we'll be over it for several months. Then there's the itch to play again, and the cycle repeats. This normally is a result of an update or a friend opening a new server.
Yeah, that's what happens with me as well, nowadays I only play Minecraft with my friends. I think playing on servers is what keeps me playing, my single player map has everything built up so there's nothing new to do there.
Minecraft works great right out of the box, but tweaking and extending the game with mods can change the experience - and some of these mods can breathe new life into this game, after you have seen what the basic game has to offer.
Minecraft seems like one of those games that can have a good run a year or two, maybe even three boy the hype slowly goes down.
