I mean seriously, I still see new members joining and people are still playing the game. So why join a forum, visit and sign in daily, but never post? I just really don't get it.

Yeah man, I think it's kinda weird too.

I know this isn't the gearbox forum, but i'm surprised that there isn't at least 3-5 posts a day.

As for people joining, I think we should require they post a Gamertag in their Signature if they are on Xbox or PS3.

Anyways, I'd like to see this forum be more active too.

I think the reason there's rarely anyone posting is because our the forum's limited audience. With borderlands 2 now out of the world game spotlight that's been taken up by games like GTA V and Destiny, most people wanting to talk about the game will go to the official gearbox forum's because they'll offer more than our forum.

I really want to get this forum back up to speed but in order to do that, we will need to expand to a wider audience. In order to do that, Harley, Sacrid and myself need to start working on new designs, features and what our forum's generally going to be about.

Any idea's? I'd love to hear them.

I had talked to Sacrid a few months back about converting to a general gaming forum, not much thought was put into it by me, just a general idea with tons of work involved.

Maybe we could offer what the Gearbox forum doesn't allow or feature. Like:
-Hosting Duping or Dropping sessions on all platforms(mentioning duped or modded weapons on the Gearbox forum can get you banned).
-A list of useful legitimate weapons/items and gear complete with their respective gibbed codes from the Base Game and all of it's DLC's
-Modded and Legit Game saves. I've found some awesome saves by DEFTONED and members of the SEVENSINS modding forum that allow you to drop Eridium, boost characters to 61 in 10 minutes or less and general dropping game saves. We could put hyperlinks on our forum in the Gamesaves links and help get those guys names out there. Hey, they may even come over here(worth a shot I guess).

I think we need to provide people with some more content. At the same time, I think the Idea of requiring 50 posts would be good to have "privileged" access to certain content(such as Gamesaves and such) would be good as it would require members to contribute to the forum more.

What you'd want to prevent(in my opinion), is people coming on here and asking for guns or whatever and not post anything after that.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Really, I think the layout for our forum is better than the Gearbox one in someways. When it comes to Borderlands 2 news or gameplay discussion, I feel that the organization of topics over there is kind of a cluster fuck. Everything is thrown into just 3 sections on Gearbox while we cover gameplay discussion across 3 different consoles as well as general gameplay.

We also have a superior design for the Marketplace by simply separating to each console. It's much easier to ask for, then connect with someone to get an item/gun on our Forum than on Gearbox.

We also have Member introductions. Makes people new to the game or our forum more welcome. Gearbox doesn't have that.

What I do think we need, is a better character build section that includes all 6 characters. The talent builds section is barely noticable and most people probably don't know it exists.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are just some of my thoughts if you were thinking on keeping this a Borderlands 2 only forum. Otherwise, you could expand to include different games. Maybe a FPS theme or an RPG theme. IDK, i'd like to keep it Borderlands 2 or just make it a general Borderlands forum.

Curious to hear what others think.

Back in May, Harley suggested a 'general FPS' forum where it was all about FPS games like CoD, BF and, of course, Borderlands 2.

However, i'm the only one of the Mods/Admins which comes on daily. Harley hasn't been on for a long time now and Sacrid still comes on but not very much. As a mod, i can't edit the actual website which means it has to be Harley or Sacrid to make the changes, not me.

I realize this is a wall of text. But just here me out here.

I think a general FPS forum could be a good idea. Alot of the people i've met on here also play CoD and BF. Really, alot of the people i've met while playing Borderlands 2 on 360 tend to also play CoD and BF. So appealing to FPS players is a good idea.

The only problem with having a general FPS forum is your audience is people that are only interested in playing "new" games. They're here for awhile, then they move on to the next big thing. It's kinda like what happened to Nintendo with the Wii. The Wii sold really well to the masses for awhile, then people just moved on to something else.

The more specific on whatever the final decision for this forum is, the better. We're going to want people that are loyal and invested into a particular game or genre of games and feel like what they contribute to the forum matters or was helpful someone else.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for my rant about this forum, and why I'd like it to stay a purely borderlands 2 forum.

If you type "Borderlands 2 Forum" on Google, we are the 3rd listing to show up(right behind Gearbox Borderlands 2 and Gearbox General Forum). Seriously, try it.

People that don't want to be on the Gearbox forum will naturally come here; especially since the Gearbox forum members can be snobbish at times. If I remember correctly, I think aNakedMonk86 told me along time ago he didn't want to join the Gearbox forum. I don't remember exactly why, but I personally didn't want to join the Gearbox forum at first simply because it was the most popular. I wanted an alternative.

Not to mention the Gearbox forum locks people's accounts that talk about modding of any kind. Sure, I like to play legitimately, but i don't mind using exploits or mods to level my characters faster(grinding through the 1st and 2nd playthroughs is a drag after doing it on at least 2 characters). I don't think people should be scrutinized or banned because gearbox fucked up the entire idea of trading items. It's like they try to pretend that duping doesn't happen and anyone that mentions duping items on their forum MUST be banned.

But I digress. Honestly, i think the current forum we have still has alot of potential. Really, Borderlands 2 has alot of life left. I mean, another level cap increase is coming out along with more DLC with new unique guns. We already have 4 massive campaign DLCs with possibly more coming. Keep in mind, this game hasn't even been out for a year yet.

However, to be successful I think we've got to Rep the shit out of this forum and provide content that makes us unique from the Gearbox forum. Will we ever have that many people posting a day? Probably not, but we can draw a different crowd of people that are looking for an alternative to that forum/scene/community/whatever.

The biggest problem I see right now is that alot of the community(including some of the VIPs) don't post anymore. If VIP's don't post or contribute to the forums, than who else will want to. I'll be honest, but I've never heard of Harley. I've been on here since March of this year and only thought Sacrid was the only Admin. We need him here updating and posting to this forum even if it's only a couple days a week.

Gearbox is still developing content for this game and in my opinion, the game isn't "dead" until they either stop making content or until Borderlands 3 is announced and released.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a proposition. Let's send out a email to everyone on this forum that has one and hold a vote on a thread. Do we either:
    1. Focus on a couple popular franchise FPS games like CoD, BF3 and BF4, Borderlands 2, Destiny and Halo that our community can pick?
    2. Focus on games with alot of Customization like Minecraft, Terraria or RPGS like Elderscrolls, Diablo, WOW and Borderlands 2?
    3. Becoming or staying a pure Borderlands forum and work on providing new as well as borrowing content that is current, cool, etc.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is something we need to bring to the attention of our current Forum members regardless of the direction that's ultimately taken. Would there be a way to alter the front page of the forum to let people know we are talking about this?

The past 3 days being the exception I still come on to the forums everyday. I haven't played BL2 in months so I don't really participate in discussions about the game but I do try to read as many threads as I can and help with issues that pop up.

Fear stepped down as an admin (He still has the title though) due to RL.
I'm not sure what is up with Harley. They generally answer my PMs within a day or 2 if something breaks but that is about it. I haven't heard anything about the changes to the forum and I only have access to the control panel so I couldn't do it myself even if I wanted to.

Modding is a difficult subject. If we were to allow people free reign to post their saves then we could potentially have viruses going around and to check these saves somebody would have to put their computer at risk by downloading it. I'm willing to give it a test run but any hint of a virus and it is being taken down.

We do allow duping and if one of our member wants to host something like this they are more than welcome to, but I would rather not have some form of "Official BL2F Dupe Party" because if something goes wrong then somebody is going to hold us responsible and expect us to reimburse them which will lead to a bad rep and potential spamming and trolling. In other words this is another "we allow it but we don't support it."

I think we need to provide people with some more content. At the same time, I think the Idea of requiring 50 posts would be good to have "privileged" access to certain content(such as Gamesaves and such) would be good as it would require members to contribute to the forum more.

We have a small gamesaves section (that needs to be updated) for unmodded characters that is gated behind a 50 post requirement.

What you'd want to prevent(in my opinion), is people coming on here and asking for guns or whatever and not post anything after that.

    I'm open to suggestions

I have added a character builds section and you are now allowed to freely share mods/gamesaves in the modding section.

I had a few possible idea's for a FPS forum, but it'll require a lot of work... i mean a LOT of work (probably, i assume it will be).

My idea was that we have the usual introductions/announcement section kept and then have 2 separate parts of the forum, one for the new FPS's and one for the big FPS's.

The new FPS section will feature a few forum sections for new FPS where people can talk about it and eventually, those sections will be moved to a different part of the forum, maybe called 'old FPS forums' or something like that and a newer FPS would come in to take that place.

The big FPS section will be permanent, with the games like Call of Duty, Halo and Battlefield since they are so popular.

On top of that, we have the usual off-topic sections like every other forum.

You can probably see by reading my idea why it would most likely be tons of work to do something like that and that people like Sacrid and myself would have to be on much more doing a lot more work and with my final year of school coming up, i'll be lucky to find much time to do work on the forums. I'd probably still have time to moderate posts but not to keep the entire forum in check.

While is it true that Borderlands 2 still has plenty of life left in it and lots of people still playing the game (14,367 players on steam playing BL2 right now), most of us on the forum have no reason to post. there is no reason for me to post anything about BL2 because there's nothing i need to ask about. A lot of the people on the forum have also moved on from BL2 and while i still think it's a fantastic game and was my personal 2nd best 2012 game (beat by Far Cry 3), i haven't played it since 30th June, now i'm playing games like Payday 2 and Arma III.

Before i leave this response here, i'll just say this. I personally believe that sending out the e-mail for the vote has a slim chance of working. Most people would think of the e-mail as spam and the one's who don't will probably not vote, apart from the Admin's, Mod's and VIP's.
As much as i'd like this forum to stay Borderlands themed, i don't think it'll survive long that way.

I could see were the biggest issue would be moving the new games content to the old games content. Since new games are coming out all the time you'd be regularly adding games while moving older new games to another section.

Maybe a solution to that could be to be more inclusive with the Franchise titles. If any game has a sequel(regardless of hype), simply make it a "Big FPS." That'd make it easier for people to access the series of games they want to hear about and it would make it easier for you to moderate/admin.

That way if a new game doesn't do well, you can drop it from the site entirely and you wouldn't have to worry about putting it in the old FPS section. That is unless, the game had a cult following which would probably demand a sequel anyway.

That would keep you constantly getting new members and you wouldn't have to worry about running out of content as there would be no end to it. New Games are still constantly going to come out.

But yeah, I still think it would be alot of work for you guys. But it might work really well.

There might not be anything you need to ask about, but wouldn't it be neat if you got on our forum and found something you didn't know about? Some of the posting i've been doing is based on the assumption that people might not know about certain things like "You can use the Infinity with Anarchy Stacks if you have the True Neutral Necromancer Class Mod from the Dragon Keep DLC." A mouthful I know.

I think the more we do stuff like this, maybe if we provide alot of content, then we will have people to ask questions. I agree that the forum needs people to ask questions for it to be successful. Maybe they just need a reason to ask?

True, I think the e-mail letting people vote could be a bad idea. My thought though was it would let people now about what's going on, especially if they're even remotely interested in our forum or Borderlands 2 anymore.
Anybody that cares the slightest bit would probably get on and vote immediately either way, even if it was just the admin's, mod's and VIP's.

My thinking is that this forum as is pretty easy to find. If you literally type
"Borderlands 2 Forum" into google, we're literally within the first couple listings. I've been thinking that's why we are getting people to still join.

Our problem is that they are joining, but they become ghosts and never post. I don't know why that happens, but my speculation is because we either:
-Don't have enough Content that makes us Unique
-Don't seem to have a very active community
-They don't feel like they have anything to ask

I've been trying to post more cool factoids but maybe what we need is to ask people questions like "Who is your favorite Character?" "What is your favorite Manufacturer?" "Do you like Tiny Tina?"

What do you guys think? (lol, not asking about Tiny Tina, because almost everyone likes her)

I sign in to see if people need help. I haven't been able to do much helping because the people that join lag so much that they can't switch weapons from their loadout to their inventory.

Seems like a lot of people that used to be on this forum stopped visiting, which makes me really sad! :( There's still a lot of activity though, I guess it's hard to talk about a game that was released 4 years ago.

I know that I tend to forget about the foums whenever the specific game gets away from me, so maybe that is playing into it somehow. That is what I assume, anyway.

Maybe some members are busy or they are in other forums. Well, some people like me don't register in one forum only. Because we want to know some other news to other games.

It maybe just because they are the ones that only seek information and not into engaging. Specially for those people who just want to learn thru reading posts. I believe that there will come a time for engaging for those kind of people.
