Mass banning spambots

    I am currently in the process of mass banning spambots and I may accidentally ban real users in the process. If your name contains any of the following phrases/letter combinations and you are not a bot please PM me before next wednesday so I can exclude you in the mass banning.

    -bondhouse
    -vn
    -thai
    -hong
    -nam (only as the first 3 letters)
    -dich

    Please also be sure you don't have incorrect XBL/PSN/Steam profiles linked to your account as I may look into those as well.

    If anyone spells my name wrong all I can do is refer them to a better educator....lol

    Ok, not that the banter in this thread isn't entertaining...I have a suggestion on how to combat this.

    What worked on my last forum was that until new members got to 10 posts, their posts had to be approved by the moderation team. This way, spambots were only visible to the mods and not the community because we would ban/delete the offending member/thread before the community even had a chance to see it.

    What worked on a different forum I'm on was to have a lurker period. A week had to be spent reading but not writing on the forums...maybe it was a hair longer even. This was usually enough to deter spambots from registering, patiently waiting a week, then raising hell.

    The former makes a little more of a workload for the mod team, but in my opinion it's well worth it for the sake of the general population not having to deal with it.
